The famous "Map of Africa Viewpoint" offers fantastic view of the Kaaimans River Valley and an oceanpanoramic view which is rivaled by few. Dolphin Point which gives a magnificent view of the ocean for miles and was named after the number of dolphins which can be spotted from here, along with whales during the winter months which is their breeding season.

Legend has it that the name Wilderness comes from a bride who asked her husband to take her away from the difficulties of 19th century life. She quoted from Haydn's "Creation" in the song "Oh for the Wings of a Dove' :
